Gem X is a by-invitation jewelry social club, based in New York City and with its newest chapter in London. It was born from a desire to transform jewelry into social experiences for a new generation of enthusiasts. Our mission is to seek the jewelry x factor – the gems, jewels and stories we have yet to discover. Read more about our beginnings here.
We comprise around 250 members, all with a vetted connection to and enthusiasm for jewelry. While all of us are jewelry collectors, many members also hold gemology degrees, work at auction houses and museums, and design jewelry of our own. Our mission is to seek the jewelry x factor – the gems, jewels and stories we have yet to discover. We find and experience them in each other’s company. In addition to bringing members exclusive, jewelry-centric events, Gem X connects members with other inspiring jewelry enthusiasts, all with a vetted connection to the industry. These connections have sparked new jewelry opportunities for our members, like new business ideas, new professional collaborations and more.
Event size depends on the host and venue. Our events have ranged from intimate discussions to larger receptions and panels.
Gem X began in New York City, and has grown in size and scope. A London chapter launched this fall, and there are plans underway for a chapter in California as well.
We ask members for an annual contribution of $100 to be a part of events. We use these fees to maintain our website and bring you new jewelry adventures. A membership also grants you access to the members-only part of our website.
We use membership funds to present thank you gifts to our hosts, maintain and expand our website, build our membership, and bring new jewelry adventures to you.
A membership expires 12 months after the purchase date.
With a membership, our members have access to a Gem X Directory, an ‘in-the-know’ jewelry calendar of events, the Gem X Extra monthly newsletter, Forum, and other special features.
While we try to keep most of our events complimentary, some of our events that include meals & travel incur additional costs. There will be a link to purchase tickets for those events.
For most events, our hosts define a headcount limit which we try to respect. As such, RSVPs are taken on a first-come, first-serve basis. If an event becomes over-subscribed, we start a wait list. If you are on the wait list for one event, we give you priority access for the following.
We frequently limit the number of members who can attend and event to ensure an intimate experience for attendees. We carefully track attendance for each event and if one becomes over-subscribed, we start a wait list. We do our best to ensure that all members have equal access to events. If you are a member and this is a concern for you, please get in touch with us.
If you can no longer attend an event you RSVP for, we ask that you give us at least a day’s notice. We maintain wait lists and wish for all our members to have a fair chance to attend limited headcount events. If you do not show up to an event without giving us notice, we reserve the right to drop you from our membership list.
